Ten years ago this week finds Kentucky and Louisville going at it on the football field. I certainly hope today is better than it was ten years ago as UK lost to Louisville 40 - 34. Louisville was coached by John L. Smith while Dave Ragone played quarterback for the Cards and Jared Lorenzen led the Cat attack. Kentucky committed five turnovers as it rained throughout the contest.

Blame it on the rain.
Football interrupted by a monsoon.
High and dry.
1. Curry Burns. Louisville fans will talk about his blocked field goal as long as the Cardinals play football.
2. Jared Lorenzen and Dave Ragone. Both looked young at times, but both left-wingers handled themselves well.
3. John L. Smith. With fewer resources than Kentucky, the U of L coach is now 2-1 versus the Cats.
All wet.
1. The Kentucky special teams. Blocked field goal, missed extra point and a long kickoff return allowed killed the Cats.
2. Kentucky run defense. If you can't stop Louisville, what's going to happen in the Souteastern Conference?
3. Kentucky run offense. When your 300-pound quaterback is your best runner, that's not a good sign, either.
Nunber(s) of the game.
Five. Number of turnovers committed by UK.
The QB scorecard.
Last year in game one versus Louisville, Dusty Bonner completed 34-for-62 for 446 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted twice. Record after one game: 0-1.
Last night in game one versus Louisville, Jared Lorenzen completed 22-for-34 for 322 yards and three touchdowns. He was intercepted three times. Record after one game: 0-1.
Denny Crying.
Remember, since Kentucky and Louisville resumed their football rivalry in 1994, the university that has won the football game has never won the basketball game between the schools in the same year.
What we saw at the circus.
Wes Strader.
For the first time in 36 years, Strader -- the Cawood Ledford of Western Kentucky University -- is not serving as play-by-play for the Hilltoppers.
Strader was unceremoniously dumped by Western after last year.
So Strader, who owns radio stations in Bowling Green, Mayfield and Pudacah that carry UK, was seeing his first Kentucky football game live since he was a UK senior in the fall of 1959.
Strader is hosting his own UK post-game call-in show on the stations he owns.
Asked if he planned to attend Western games this year, Strader said, "Probably not. At least not for a while. I hope to be with the Cats every game."
Today's talking points.
1. Just when you think you've seen it all.
2. If you can't run it and you can't stop the run you're going to have a hard time beating any one good.
3. SEC teams should dominate C-USA teams.
Quote of the game.
Louisville guarterback Dave Ragone, who made his first collegiate start last night, on the best part of last night's game: "There shouldn't be any more questions about my experience. I experienced it all tonight."
