altAs we try to bring you more and more great features to use here at TBK we want to keep you informed on how to use these tools to get the most out of your experience here. One of the best features that a website can provide is access to an RSS feed.

I'm sure as you have browsed the internet (no doubt costing your company alot of money in bandwidth and lost work) you have at least seen the icon to the left. This is the marker for an RSS feed. RSS is really easy to set up and will end up being one of your favorite internet tools once you start reaping the benefits.

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and is used to transform the way you browse your favorite sites that are updated frequently. This describes our new home page perfectly and we want you to be able to get the most out of it. The basic idea of RSS is that it allows you to turn keeping up with your favorite sites from a "pull" method to more of a "push".

If you are not using an RSS feed reader you are esentially reading our content in a "pull" method. You go to a site by clicking on your bookmark or typing the URL into your browser, you then find the new content on the site and enjoy. As you can see in this method you "pulled" the new content to you.

An RSS feed reader changes the game up by pushing the content to you without having to go to the site and find it for yourself. The reader accesses the sites you subscribe to every 15 minutes, looks for new content and if it exists, pushes the content to your reader.

There are many RSS readers out there. I use the one that is built inside Outlook 2007 while I am at work, and Vista has a great RSS feed reader built in to the Sidebar as a gadget which is pictured on the right. This is a site that has done a great job at compiling a list of the top 10 readers on the net. http://tinyurl.com/2bu56y

Signing up for a feed is very simple. Just find the orange icon that is at the top of this blog on your favorite sites, ours can be found at the bottom left of the home page. Clicking this will bring you to the actual feed page which is what is sent to your reader. You will then need to copy the address out of the address bar (here is ours for an example feed://www.truebluekentucky.com/index.php?format=feed&type=rss ) in your browser and paste it into your feed reader.  Once that is done, your feed reader will deliver you the content instead of you constantly having to go looking for it.

This simple tool will allow all the newest content of your subscribed pages to be delivered to you in a very easy to manage and organized way. Enojy!
