Rumph Cleared to Play

ukIn case you missed the big football news for UK on Wednesday, Donte Rumph was finally cleared to play for the Cats.  Rumph committed to UK back in 2008 and again in 2009 had to spend the last two seasons at Fork Union Military Academy to make himself eligible to play.  The news is great for UK defense after it was announced last week that Paul Warford was declared ineligible to play.

Speaking at a luncheon for the Governor's Cup, Coach Phillips praised Rumph's hard work.  Chip Cosby's has several comments from Joker on Rumph in his latest article for Kentuckysports.com.  Here are a few excerpts,

Kentucky hung in there with Rumph, who was re-signed in 2009 and once again failed to qualify. UK signed Rumph for a third time in February, and Phillips said he was confident that Rumph would finally become a Wildcat. Phillips said he learned late Tuesday night that Rumph was good to go.

"It gives me cold chills that a guy has been persistent in trying to get here," Phillips said. "Listening to his dad go into tears, that means a lot to me, giving a guy like him an opportunity."

Expect More Dribble Drive This Season .. A Lot More

Terrence Jones was recently asked on Twitter about the most exciting thing about being a Wildcat.  His answer, playing in the "Dribble-Drive Motion Offense."

Expect more of the DDMO this season, and expect a lot more of it.  Calipari said in a recent Lexy audio post you could possibly see a more "extreme" version of it.

Article courtesy of ESPN's Diamond Leung.

Answering a fan's question on Twitter, Kentucky incoming freshman Terrence Jones wrote today that of all the things he's most looking forward to about being a Wildcat, it's playing in coach John Calipari's dribble-drive motion offense

Players generally like the idea of seeing their play-making abilities accentuated in this attacking offense
as do recruits, so they'll all be happy to hear what Calipari has in store for next season.

Calipari, speaking on a
Lexy audio post yesterday, mentioned that due to the change in personnel on the team, the Big Blue Nation can expect to see even more of the dribble-drive and possibly a more extreme version of it.

Taking the Next Step

JokerKentucky fans hope to take the next step in elevating the football program this season after going to four consective bowl games.  First year head coach Joker Phillips became the lead man to guide the program in to new realms in January.  Joker has been noted throughout football as being a top notch recrutier.  Yet will Joker be able to guide the football program to new heights after four successful seasons?

One individual who thinks that Coach Phillips will improve the football program is Max Howell.  Howell is a host of a sports radio show in Jackson, MS, and spent 30 years coaching at Florida State, Ole Miss, and Troy.  Max talked about Joker in the Advocate Messenger's latest article by Larry Vaught, and had some positive things to say about Coach.

Howell stated that he got to talk to Joker at the SEC media days.  He came away impressed with the UK head coach.  “He has been a great recruiter all along, but now that he has control of the program he can do even more and I think Kentucky will continue to improve. I really do.”

Battling Back to the League

woodsonHe was one of the central pieces to Kentucky's football resurgence.   He threw the pass that knocked off number one LSU at Commonwealth Stadium, and he threw the perfect pass to sink UL when "Stevie got loose."  Now after stints on the Giants' and Redskins' practice squads, former UK QB Andre Woodson is heading to the UFL in order to get back to the National Football League.

Rick Bozich talks to Woodson about his decision to play in the UFL in his latest article for the Courier Journal.  Here are some excerpts.

Woodson is trying to outplay three guys for the starting quarterback job with the Hartford Colonials of the United Football League.

He has decided his most direct route to the NFL is through the UFL. The ‘U' might be considered “unknown” by many, but the UFL is a five-team developmental league starting its second season with teams in Hartford, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Omaha and Orlando.
